TRIESTE

80 km far from Lignano, wedged between the mountains and the sea, there's Trieste, the capital city of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia. It still shows the signs of its Medieval past: the Roman Basilica, the fortress and the Cathedral with precious mosaics.

The recent past of the city, the Asburgic tradition and the legendary cosmopolitanism are reflected in the city centre, where roads are flanked by elegant Neoclassical buildings, Art Nouveau monuments and mighty churches of different religions.

UDINE

55 km far from Lignano you can find Udine, the heart and symbol of Friuli. Its Medieval and Venetian past is still alive in its squares, buildings and monuments. In the city centre, the “Freedom Square” is dominated by the castle hill and characterized by the wonderful Loggia del Lionello and the magnificent Bell Tower. This square is called “the most beautiful Venetian square on dry land".

In the palazzis and churches you can admire many wonderful art works of the artist Giovanbattista Tiepolo (18th century) and this is the reason why Udine is also called the “Tiepolo town”.

VENICE

It takes about one hour by car (85 km) to get to Venice, the unique and unforgettable city on water, as well as the most romantic city in the world...

AQUILEIA

50 km far from Lignano. The basilica of the ancient Roman colony gives the visitor an unforgettable view: the earliest and biggest Christian mosaic floor.

The archeological area is very interesting too, together with the National Archeological Museum and the Early Christian and the Patriarchate Museum.

CIVIDALE

65 km far from Lignano. Cividale was founded around 50 b.C. by Julius Caesar and later became the capital city of the first Lombard Duchy in Italy.
In the Archeological and in the Christian Museum you can still admire many historical testimonials. Very remarcable are also the famous "Tempietto Longobardo" (Small Lombard Temple) and the Devil’s Bridge (15th century), symbol of the town.

PALMANOVA

45 km far from Lignano. A Renaissance fortress shaped like a nine-pointed star, surrounded by massive Venetian bulwarks and French fortifications.

Extremely beautiful the hexagonal square in the the city centre.

SAN DANIELE

65 km far from Lignano. Famous for its ham, San Daniele also hosts many historical buildings like the 18th century Duomo, the Gothic church of S. Antonio and the Guarneriana Library.

Not far away, in Spilimbergo, you’ll find the Mosaic School of Friuli, which is famous all over the world, and many interesting buildings from different periods, as, for example, the 15th century “Palazzo Dipinto” (“Painted Palace”), in the yard of the castle.

PASSARIANO

35 km far from Lignano you can find Villa Manin, one of the most scenic Venetian villas, built in the 18th century and surrounded by a marvellous garden, which is now used for exhibitions and prestigious events.
In this place Napoleon Bonaparte signed the treaty of Campoformido in 1797, which gave Venice to Austria.
